Anne George: Proximities

The current exhibit at the Watkins Gallery on the Winona State University Campus is called Proximities created by Anne George. She gave a talk at the gallery last Wednesday, 11/30/2022.  I was intrigued with her interest in this textile discovery that she made during COVID.  She sits on the floor and puts the colorful yarn around her and chooses colors as she goes.  She punches the yarn through from the back side requiring her to turn the frame often to look at the front of her art.

Students discussing the art.

She adds words to some of her art.

Interesting texture is created through the use of the the yarn colors chosen.

Impressions of Prince

Cherrywood is a Minnesota company that creates hand dyed fabrics and they put on this Prince Challenge in 2018.  It was displayed at the Rochester Quilt Show and Conference in June 2019.  Here's a quote from Cherrywood's website:

"We apply our privately designed line of colors to high quality fabrics to offer you the best product for your creative needs. The hand dyeing process we’ve perfected over our 30+ years produces a beautiful tone-on-tone texture that reads as a solid, but has depth and variety that will never be replicated by mass-production. Cherrywood is proudly made in the U.S.A. by women who sew, create and dye a little every day." Go to Cherrywood to find out more or order fabrics today.

Twenty facts you may not know about Prince.

Thankfulness and Sharing

Autumn Flowers
13.5" x 16.25"
Petal images embedded in cotton,
Machine stitch drawing
October 2016

It’s time to say “Thank you.”  Thank you for the air that I breathe.  Thank you for the hands that love to create.  Thank you for a body that loves to move and sense joy.  Thank you for the gift of thinking and being able to learn and change my mind or shift my thinking to more kind ways.

On a using hands and head note:

I’ve given myself a little time to get to my art studio to create.  'Autumn Flowers' has its origins in flowers long past.  By putting the pigments of the petals in the cloth and stitch drawing, the energy of the flowers live on.
